Here is Joop's story:
My name is Joop Kosse. I have been married for thirty years to Anneke and have three children; one boy, Bertold, and two girls, Antoinette and Christel.
Since 1972, we have had "Working Goldens" and have done a lot of field trials and hunting competitions. We have been quite successful and have raised three field champions, Cindy, Joan, and Joyce. I do all the training myself. Now we are busy with our golden Lynn, who is 6 years old and with a little luck, she will be a field champion too this year .
During all these years the "Van de Uilenburg Kennel" raised 6 field champions and we will continue to do so.
For us this is a hobby. We are not professionals, and we like to keep it that way.
The newest member of our golden family is "Boy" by AFC Rosehill's Mr. Speaker x Taz of Red Oak. The breeder is Kendall Tucker. Boy was born on July 9, 1999. We will do our best to have him a Working Field Champion in the near future.
We imported Boy since we could not find new bloodlines in Holland. For the last litter out of Joyce, Lynn's mother, we did line breeding. For the first litter we used a Dutch male.
But as we have a good reputation in Holland for breeding "Working Goldens" we were looking now for a male with an exceptional reputation in the States.
Through a good Dutch friend, we made contact with Sue Westlake from Readfield, Maine. Due to her fantastic help and her intention to promote the American retriever in Holland, we got in contact with Lorie Jolly from Bone Cove, Tennessee who is very successful with her young male "Speaker" better known as AFC Rosehill"s Mr. Speaker .
First we tried to import sperm from Speaker to Holland to inseminate our bitch "Lynn". Unfortunately, the breeding didn't take.
So we were faced with two other possibilities. The first possibility was to send our "Lynn" over to the States when she was in heat. But this was not a good solution. The dogs in Holland do not have any experience flying. The distances in Holland and Western Europe are too small for flying. We were afraid she would be stressed and would not have any interest in Mr. Speaker.
The second possibility was to import a young male from a litter sired by Speaker.
We needed help from an American and here again Sue Westlake did a tremendous job finding out just what was needed. As Sue had been in Holland two years ago to give a seminar for Dutch retriever friends and had contact with Joop Kosse and his golden "Lynn" , she knew the person and understood very well what kind of puppy and what character would suit Joop Kosse. Thanks to the Internet and the enormous help of our friend, Frans Wientjes, who did the correspondence email for over two years, we succeeded!
Thanks to Sue and Lorie's guidance the choice was made for a male from the Speaker- Taz litter .
The result was that Sue flew over with " Boy" to his new "parents", the family Kosse. Already they cannot imagine their life without Boy.
Good luck and greatest success to Joop and "Boy"... from the Speaker crew!
